Buckelew: In Brief - October 2022

CEO Chris Kughn with substance use  program
directors Sylvie De Le Cruz of Athena House and
Teresa Bowman of Helen Vine Recovery Center.

Celebrating Recovery

On September 22nd, Buckelew Programs’ Helen Vine Recovery Center, in partnership with the County of Marin’s Health & Human Services, hosted a celebration of recovery in conjunction with National Recovery Month. The free event featured local treatment providers, food, music and opportunities to win prizes. Celebrating sobriety, whether it’s the first day of a commitment to change or the tenth year, acknowledges the hard work required in staying sober and the value of a supportive community in the recovery journey. We are grateful for the many community partners that support our community and our ability to provide the evidence-based treatment that helps those who live with substance use challenges reclaim their lives.

Trunk-or-Treat

Looking for a safe and free place to take the kids or grandkids trick-or-treating? Sonoma County and Santa Rosa first responders and community partners are hosting a drive-thru Trunk-or-Treat event, with decorations and kid-friendly Halloween adventures from Blind Scream Haunted House. Buckelew’s inRESPONSE: Mental Health Support Team members will be joining the fun and handing out candy. Costumes are encouraged!

About inRESPONSE: Buckelew was a key member in the planning, and now the current operation of the Santa Rosa Police Department’s inRESPONSE Mental Health Support Team, which responds to 911 calls requiring a mental health first approach. An innovative response model, the crisis response team is comprised of a Buckelew licensed mental health clinician, a paramedic and a homeless outreach specialist. The inRESPONSE team is trained in de-escalation and social work interventions and provides physical and mental health evaluations, wrap-around support services and mental health resources for individuals and families experiencing a mental health crisis. The inRESPONSE Team is staffed and also part of Buckelew’s Family Service Coordination program.

Candy donations (manufacture pre-wrapped) may be dropped off at Buckelew Programs, 2300 Northpoint Parkway, Santa Rosa (south entrance) through Monday, October 24th between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. To make special arrangements, please email: BrandiS@Buckelew.org with the subject line: Trunk-or-Treat.

Please come by and say hello!

Wednesday, October 26th  |  4:00 – 7:00 pm  |  Veterans Memorial Building  |  1351 Maple Ave

Help Save Lives: Act by October 15

The launch this summer of the nationwide 988 service, the new three-digit phone and text number for mental health, substance use and suicidal crises, will expand access at the critical time a person needs help. That’s why we’re asking for your financial support to help us meet our match. If you make a gift by October 15, our generous partners at Redwood Credit Union will match all gifts received up to $15,000, which will help us raise a total of $50,000 to fund critical suicide prevention outreach, education and awareness throughout four North Bay counties.
